Signals and Systems

The ability to represent continuous and discrete data using mathematical equations and graphical illustrations is a fundamental requirement in this subject, yet students often find it challenging. For instance, an audio or voice signal can be mathematically represented using short-time analysis. Various operations can be performed on this s
If the speech signal is corrupted by noise, then it is necessary to design a system to remove the noise. The output of such a system would be the denoised speech signal.
By studying this subject, students will gain an understanding of how to perform operations on signals and analyze systems. They will learn to determine important system characteristics, such as whether a system is linear, time-invariant, causal, static, or dynamic.
Dr. NV has hands-on experience on this subject for more than two decades and she offers one-on-one subject tutoring with practical illustration using MATLAB, assistance in solving assignments.

Digital Signal Processing (DSP)

This is the fundamental topic that involves analyzing, modifying and synthesizing audio, biomedical and communication signals. The processing of these signals involves complex mathematical foundations such as Fourier transforms, Laplace transforms, Z-Transforms and Wavelet transforms. Many students find it challenging to visualize and apply these concepts in real world applications.

Description: The porosity of a composite material appears as small interlaminar voids. If the porosity increases, then the mechanical strength of the composite plate decreases. To evaluate the porosity of the composite plate non-destructively, ultrasonic measurement is employed. The ultrasonic waves are transmitted through the composite material and the relative amplitude of the echoes from the front wall and back wall of the composite material are assessed. A highly porous material exhibits higher ultrasonic attenuation which shows the material has less mechanical strength. (Learn More).

Communication Systems (COS)

TThe communication systems involve the transmission of voice, data and multimedia signals over wired or wireless channels that are essential in satellite communications, telecommunications, the Internet, IoT, 5G networks and broadcasting. The assignments include the design and simulation of communication systems, signal and radiation pattern analysis, simulations of AM, FM, QPSK, QAM in MATLAB with bit error rate analysis, signal filtering, noise removal and spectral analysis. The students face challenges in solving assignments due to the difficulty in applying theoretical concepts into real- world applications using MATLAB/Simulink tools.
Dr. NV offers you ideal help in solving assignments, projects and subject tutoring for this subject. She has extensive experience in solving problems using MATLAB/Simulink tools. Sample assignments solved by Dr. NV are listed below:
